Distracted Driving

Distracted driving is dangerous, claiming 3,477 lives in 2015 alone. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) leads the national effort to save lives by preventing this dangerous behavior. Get the facts, get involved, and help us keep America’s roads safe.

Texting and driving is one of the most dangerous forms of distracted driving. At any given moment across America, approximately 660,000 drivers are using or manipulating electronic devices while driving, a number that has held steady since 2010. Distracted driving has become a deadly epidemic on America’s roadways (NHTSA).

The Santa Monica Fire Department wants everyone to be safe out on the roads. The price for not paying attention is too high, and we all have a part to play in making sure everyone keeps their eyes and mind on the road and hands on the wheel. Common sense and personal responsibility are a major part of the solution. You are the key to preventing distracted driving-the message is simple please, Put It Down!
