Learn Not to Burn
  • Burn Facts:
      • 40% of all burns seen in hospitals are from household scalds.
      • A child is seriously burned every 4 minutes
      • A hot cup of coffee or hot soup could cause a third-degree burn in less than 5 seconds.
Grease Fires
  • What to do
      • Always leave flaming grease on the stove and cover the pan with a lid. It is extremely dangerous to carry a pan of burning grease. Often the pan becomes too hot to hold and is then dropped, resulting in serious injury.
      • If the fire is in your broiler, close the broiler door, and turn off the heat; this will smother the fire.
      • Do not throw water or flour into flaming grease; this can cause an explosion.
      • If the fire does not go out, call your fire department immediately.
